Some owners follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule for car service. Other people follow their own schedule, skipping some services. If you are familiar with automobile systems, this might work well for a while to keep your car running. However, to keep it running at its maximum capability and avoid costly car repair, don’t overlook certain car service issues. Your car is a big investment and you want ti to last you for as many miles as possible with safe driving.
The 5 most common overlooked car service items:
1. Brake Fluid Flush
A good schedule for this is every 36,000 miles or three years, whichever comes first. Moisture can get into the brake system causing corrosion and rust, even in a sealed system.
2. Automatic Transmission Fluid Flush
Manufacturer’s describe some cars as having “lifetime transmission fluid.” Don’t count on the fluid to remain in optimal condition. It should be flushed and replaced after 60,000 miles to keep your transmission working as it should.
3. Coolant Flush
Also sometimes described as lasting a “lifetime,” the ph balance can become unbalanced over time and damage the coolant system or engine. A good interval for a coolant flush is every 40,000 to 60,000 miles.
4. Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Whether the one in your car removes only dust and pollen from the driver’s space or the kind that also filters pollutants and smells, this is usually an inexpensive car service to have performed.
5. Valve Adjustment
This should be checked if you feel your vehicle has lost performance power. Your car might not need an adjustment, but if the valves are too tight or loose, your engine won’t operate with its optimal power. Besides, a burned valve can result in a costly car repair.
It’s important to schedule having these things done along with oil changes and other things you do to avoid extensive car repairs.
